Secret documents from Israeli security meeting records have revealed that former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman warned as early as 2016 about the possibility of a large-scale attack by Hamas, involving the storming of villages and kidnapping prisoners. This scenario materialized in the October 7 assault. Despite his warning, Israeli military and security leaders dismissed his assessments, insisting that Hamas was not interested in war and that the balance of power favored Israel. Lieberman resigned in 2018 after failing to persuade the government to carry out a military operation against Hamas.
