Turkey has decided to exempt Syrians from the requirement of obtaining work permits in order to meet labor market needs. The permit requirement has been abolished for Syrians and those under temporary protection due to the demand for the workforce. Minister Mustafa Şentop pointed out that the number of Syrians who have voluntarily returned to their country has exceeded 1.434 million, while their current population in Turkey is approximately 2.259 million. He emphasized that the issue has become one of long-term social and demographic implications. Sectors with high Syrian employment rely on them to work for low wages and long hours. Children and women work unofficially, and despite official restrictions, the rates of work permits among Syrians remain low.
