The incident of forcibly removing a Palestinian keffiyeh from a student during a graduation ceremony at a high school in Saskatchewan has sparked widespread controversy in Canada. The National Council of Canadian Muslims described the event as an example of anti-Palestinian racism and reflected increasing restrictions on expressing Palestinian identity in educational institutions. Video footage showed the teacher violently yanking the keffiyeh off the student's neck after she received her diploma. The council expressed its disapproval and condemnation of these practices, which are categorized as acts of racism directed against Palestinians.
