Maritime shipping companies and sector unions have classified the Strait of Hormuz as a war risk area until at least July 9, despite the fragile truce between the United States and Iran. The classification affects approximately 15,000 ships owned by companies bound by collective agreements, granting sailors the right to refuse to sail and to withdraw at the ship owners' expense, due to ongoing risks and escalating conflicts in the region. The strait has been designated as a war zone since March 5 after attacks on vessels, with the conflicts resulting in the deaths of 14 sailors and damage to more than 40 ships.
