The French-Tunisian journalist Murad Al-Zghidi sent an open letter to President Qais Saeed, requesting his release. He based his appeal on recent statements made by the president, in which Saeed indicated that anyone who has made a settlement with the state should leave prison. Al-Zghidi was detained in May 2024 due to criticisms directed at the president and was sentenced to three and a half years in prison on charges of money laundering and tax evasion, despite having paid the owed amounts after reaching a settlement agreement with the Ministry of Finance. Al-Zghidi called for the application of the principle of freedom for those who have reached such settlements, while Saeed emphasized that his goal is to seek reconciliation that recovers stolen funds from the people and guarantees that no one will be mistreated.
