The recent appointments to the Syrian People's Council, issued by presidential decree from President Ahmed al-Sharif, outlined the completion of the legislative council's formation by increasing its membership to 210 members. These appointments included a selection of leading medical and educational experts, as well as prominent representatives of tribal elders and civil society organizations. The aim was to strengthen parliamentary work and ensure the human rights agenda is reflected in the legislation. As the first session of the council is scheduled to take place in a week, this development reflects Syria's efforts to restore its legislative institutions following the elections held in October 2025.
