Cape Verde's national team will face Argentina in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup. Coach Pedro Lietaio Prieto, known as "Bobiesta," confirmed that his team is entering the match without fear, focusing on delivering an outstanding performance in their first tournament appearance. During the press conference, he explained that the team is calm, aware of the significance of the encounter, and aiming to advance beyond this stage after qualifying from the group stage. The coach was also asked about the allegations of rape against the team captain, Ryan Mendy, who is facing a complaint in New Zealand from a Brazilian woman. However, he declined to comment on the matter.
