Thomas Tuchel, the head coach of the English national team, called for consistency in refereeing decisions, criticizing FIFA's decision to cancel the red card given to US striker Folarin Balogun. The player had been cleared to participate in the match against Belgium in the Round of 16 despite having been suspended for one game for a separate suspension. This decision sparked widespread controversy, with some considering it illogical and raising questions about the mechanism and reliability of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decisions, especially regarding cancellations or delays based on static images. Tuchel emphasized the importance of consistent decisions and expressed surprise at officials' interference with the referee and the lack of clarity in the regulations, despite England's 3-2 victory over Mexico.
