Pakistan is moving towards playing a mediating role in unifying the eastern and western fronts in Libya, in an attempt to ease the ongoing political and military division since 2014. Reports confirm communication between the Pakistani military leadership and the Libyan "National Unity" government, with indications of talks and military cooperation between the two sides, as well as Pakistan’s efforts to mediate between the Tripoli and Benghazi authorities, with support from the United States and Saudi Arabia. These moves come at a time of increasing international efforts to achieve stability and hold comprehensive elections in Libya.
