German Foreign Minister Johan Wadefoul stated that demining in the Strait of Hormuz by Europe could be justified. However, he clarified that Berlin does not currently plan to impose fees for participating in the operation. He pointed out that Iran has laid illegal mines in the waterway and that European countries might cooperate to remove the mines, with Iran bearing the costs due to the damages caused. He emphasized that German military involvement requires clear security and political conditions and that the success of the mission depends on negotiations between the United States and Iran. Germany had previously sent ships to prepare the area. These comments come ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, where Iran and freedom of navigation will be discussed amid concerns over escalating tensions between Iran and European countries.
