Gianni Infantino, the President of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), defended his decision to introduce a review process for the suspension of US forward Folarin Balogun, after receiving a call from U.S. President Donald Trump, who requested a review of the red card. He confirmed that the judicial bodies within FIFA are independent and operate without external interference, expressing his respect for their decisions. This came in response to the criticism the decision received, including a statement from the European Union's UEFA, which expressed shock at the suspension being lifted and regarded it as an overstep.
