Ceuta, the Spanish enclave in northern Morocco, has undergone extensive border drills following a large influx of migrants crossing via the sea. Most of them were returned to Morocco according to Spanish authorities, with around 48,000 people arriving in recent days. The illegal crossing attempts have resulted in at least 67 migrant deaths during the crossing process. Meanwhile, young men continue to attempt to cross the border in the opposite direction amid heightened security measures. The tensions have led some European countries to call for tighter border controls, with ongoing security reinforcements and precautionary measures. The Spanish government has also accused mafias of orchestrating these migration flows.
