An advocacy organization in Tunisia has launched an international petition calling for the release of Rached Ghannouchi, the leader of Ennahda Movement and former Speaker of Parliament, as well as political prisoners, due to the deterioration of his health and the danger it poses to his life. It is noteworthy that Ghannouchi, who is 85 years old, has been hospitalized at least six times since late June 2023, amid restrictions preventing his family and lawyers from visiting him or obtaining information about his health status. These circumstances have led to warnings from the United Nations team, which considered his detention arbitrary and called for his immediate release. The UN emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of detainees to health and dignity.
