China undertakes military drills near contested reefs
China conducted military maneuvers and Coast Guard exercises near disputed reefs in the South China Sea, as a display of strength in response to clashes with the Philippines. These drills come amid escalating tensions over sovereignty in the area, which is controlled by China but claims sovereignty over the entire sea, despite an international ruling rejecting its claims. The operations included naval and aerial activities, with a focus on inspections, enforcement, and preventing forced entry, aiming to protect China's maritime interests and territories in the region.
