The article addresses the experiences of many Moroccans who attempted to cross the border at Ceuta after videos and clips circulated suggesting a possible opening of the border, with the aim of reaching Spain and fulfilling their dreams of a better future. However, most of them suffered from hunger, exhaustion, and disappointment when it became clear that the border would not open in reality, and that reaching the rest of Spanish territory was impossible due to security measures and natural barriers. Many of them had to return to Morocco after days of trying, sharing stories of difficult conditions, such as a shortage of food and water, as well as being beaten or expelled by residents. The experience revealed that the attitudes of authorities and residents in Ceuta varied; some were worried about the large influx of migrants, while others expressed sympathy. Overall, the article exposes the fragility of the dreams fueled by social media clips and the harsh conditions faced by the returning migrants.
