Migration surge causes Spain-Europe crisis
The article addresses the repercussions of the migrant flow across the border between Morocco and Spanish Ceuta, where the death toll has reached 67 people who drowned while attempting to cross. The number of migrants who tried to reach Ceuta is estimated to be between 50,000 and 60,000, most of whom returned to Morocco after failing to settle in the area. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez condemned the response of European countries, describing it as selfish and divisive, especially as some nations have implemented stricter border control measures. Spain announced its intention to deport illegal migrants, despite a Supreme Court ruling that they cannot be deported without following legal procedures, and there is ongoing disagreement over the reasons behind the large influx of migrants. A floating barrier has been set up at the entrance to Ceuta to monitor the border, while the region remains a center of diplomatic tension between Spain and Morocco, due to Moroccan claims of sovereignty over the two territories.
