Mladenov: Gaza strikes persist despite ceasefire plan
The article discusses ongoing political and military efforts in the Gaza Strip, where international sources and Palestinian factions confirm that Israeli escalation continues despite understandings to cease fire. Israeli bombardments have resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians and caused extensive damage to medical and residential infrastructure. Israel remains committed to dismantling Hamas's activities, although there are objections to excluding Qatar and Turkey from the oversight mechanism. Meanwhile, Egypt and international mediators are calling for an end to the escalation and for creating the conditions necessary to fully implement the American roadmap, which includes transferring governance and releasing hostages, despite the ongoing military escalation and some parties' refusal. Reports indicate that the toll of casualties in Gaza is rising, with warehouses of medicines and homes destroyed, while officials emphasize that efforts to de-escalate are still underway in hopes of achieving a permanent ceasefire.
