South Korea Faces Emergency in 20 Regions
South Korea recorded today its highest temperature ever since record-keeping began over a century ago, reaching 42.5°C in Yangsan. The ongoing heatwave has led to most areas being under extreme heat warnings, with temperatures in many cities exceeding 38°C. This marks the fifth consecutive day when temperatures in Yangsan have surpassed 40°C. Additionally, the average number of hot days per year has increased to 19 over the past five years, compared to just eight days in the 1970s. Scientists warn that the frequency and intensity of extreme climate events are rising due to climate change caused by human activities.
