WHO criticizes food firms on obesity efforts
The World Health Organization, through an international investigation, reveals that ultra-processed food companies are suing governments in several countries with the aim of slowing down or canceling health policies designed to combat obesity, which affects about one billion people worldwide. The findings indicate that these companies have filed 235 lawsuits between 2010 and 2025, of which they have lost 75%. Nevertheless, their ongoing legal actions hinder the implementation of health measures such as warning labels and taxes on fast food, thereby obstructing efforts to reduce the consumption of unhealthy foods and disrupting public health policies aimed at protecting populations.
