Yisrael Katz faces widespread criticism
Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz faced widespread criticism after dismissing the army's Central Command chief, Lieutenant General Avi Bluth, live on television during an interview. This came as a result of a decision to renew a restrictive order against a settler. The move is seen as an attempt to garner support from the right-wing, amid Likud Party's preparations for internal elections. Katz was accused of politicizing the army and exploiting it for partisan purposes. Military and political figures stated that publicly dismissing Bluth without legal procedures crosses red lines and harms Israel's security, while some senior officials defended Bluth and accused Katz of trying to exploit the military institution for political ends.
