Egyptians' experience of the earthquake
Residents of Cairo and several Egyptian governorates were struck by a state of panic following an earthquake with a magnitude between 5.2 and 5.6 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located 61 kilometers northeast of Sharm El-Sheikh. There have been no reports of injuries or material damage so far, but the quake drew the attention of the public and media alike. Video footage captured moments of panic and cracks in building foundations. Experts confirmed that the earthquake is natural within the seismic activity in the Gulf of Suez region, and that reducing its risks requires awareness and adherence to resistant building standards, along with the development of monitoring networks.
