Israel seeks ongoing Lebanon withdrawals
The Lebanese government is seeking to achieve successive Israeli withdrawals from southern Lebanon, aiming for a complete withdrawal from Lebanese territories, according to a framework agreement reached last June after five rounds of negotiations. The seventh round, which begins in Rome, focuses on accelerating the full implementation of the agreement, including expanding trial areas, resolving border issues, and drafting a comprehensive peace and security accord. The greatest challenge lies in identifying new areas for Israeli occupation, as Hezbollah refuses to surrender its weapons and to negotiate directly with Israel. Meanwhile, American officials warn against hasty actions that could endanger civilians.
