Police officer in tree costume targets phone users
The Dunellen Police Department in New Jersey organized a campaign to monitor cell phone use while driving, featuring an undercover officer in a camouflage suit resembling a tree to observe vehicles. Over six hours, 74 violations were issued to drivers distracted by their devices, averaging one violation approximately every five minutes. The campaign aims to enforce a law criminalizing phone use while driving, which imposes fines of up to $800 and includes license suspension after the third violation, with the goal of safeguarding road safety from reckless accidents caused by driver distraction.
