Ben Gvir Visits Palestinian Prison Project
Israel has launched a controversial plan to surround the Ketzi'ot prison in the Negev with water channels containing crocodiles, as part of a toughening policy toward Palestinian prisoners, especially "elite" prisoners. Despite a court ruling temporarily suspending the implementation, Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Environment Minister Itai Stein continue to push forward with the project, which aims to enhance deterrence and send a warning message to the prisoners. They justify it by stating that the focus is on security rather than on criminal inmates. Ben Gvir's plans have sparked angry reactions and human rights concerns, with activists considering them a violation of prisoners' treatment laws and an expression of torturous policies. The issue has led to political and judicial clashes, amid warnings of escalating repressive practices against Palestinians within Israeli detention facilities.
