Yemen's global food security effort

The international development initiative in Abyan Governorate focused on comprehensively developing the agricultural value chain to improve food security in Yemen, which is suffering from declining economic activity and ongoing conflict. This approach helped reduce production costs, expand the production of local seedlings and organic fertilizers, improve irrigation systems, and decrease post-harvest losses from 26% to even lower levels than before. These measures led to a 48% increase in sales for agricultural enterprises, a 22.6% rise in their profits, the creation of jobs—especially for women— and improvements in the performance of rural communities and their ability to face food and economic challenges.
