Arab-Islamic summit opposes Jerusalem status change
The Arab-Islamic Meeting in Jordan voiced its rejection of Israeli policies aimed at altering the identity and legal status of the city of Jerusalem. It emphasized that the occupation measures are illegal and violate international law. The attendees confirmed that Eastern Jerusalem is part of the occupied Palestinian territories and that Israel has no sovereignty over it. They also stated that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, condemning attempts to change its historical and legal status and to threaten the Christian presence in Jerusalem. The ministers called for immediate action to halt all illegitimate Israeli procedures, reaffirming support for the Hashemite custodianship of the holy sites. The member countries include Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Palestine. The meeting was attended by foreign ministers from several Islamic and Arab nations, amidst rising tensions in the West Bank since the outbreak of war in Gaza in October 2023.
