Iran and Oman have reached preliminary understandings regarding arrangements for ship transit through the Strait of Hormuz. These involve new routes for managing maritime navigation and asserting the sovereignty of both countries over the passage. The agreement does not guarantee the immediate reopening of the strait, as implementing these new conditions requires fulfilling certain commitments, including American obligations and Iran's assurances. The recent arrangements are based on a new system that emphasizes more effective management of the passage, including the establishment of an Iranian-Omani joint center to coordinate vessel movements, while safeguarding sovereignty and security interests. Iran believes that the understanding should be limited to the two parties and considers that any decision to open the passage depends on meeting security and political conditions, especially amid ongoing US sanctions and Washington's failure to fulfill its commitments. Iran also rejects any concealment of intentions through the use of force or direct negotiations.
