Saudi Arabia has announced the appointment of Major General Abdullah bin Salim Al-Shahri as the Commander of the Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition established to protect the freedom of navigation in the region. The coalition, which currently includes countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United States, Yemen, Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan, aims to support maritime security, safeguard shipping lanes, and enhance international cooperation to address security threats, particularly the escalation of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea. Efforts are underway to complete the accession procedures for additional countries, with plans for further meetings to develop the coalition’s institutional structure, which represents an important step in confronting security challenges and ensuring the safety of international maritime routes.
