The article discussed the European escalation against establishing centers for the repatriation of migrants outside Libya, supported by the European Union, while Libyan rejection emphasized that these plans threaten the country's sovereignty. The European Union's Commissioner for Home Affairs, Magnús Brønner, expressed support for building external deportation centers, especially since Italy has proposed establishing centers in African countries and elsewhere outside Africa, which raises concerns among Libyans about exploiting the crisis to boost smuggling and illegal migration. It is estimated that the number of irregular migrants in Libya is around 1.5 million. Libyan officials called for safeguarding sovereignty and uniting institutions, emphasizing the need to address the root causes of poverty and unemployment in African countries, and warned against signing agreements that harm Libya's interests without national consensus. Additionally, the European Union confirmed that it does not support resettling migrants in Libya nor intends to establish centers within the country.
