Major General Abdullah Al-Shahri, Marine Commander, affirmed that Saudi Arabia is leading an international initiative to enhance maritime security in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. This is being done through the establishment of a defense alliance comprising 43 countries, with the aim of safeguarding freedom of navigation, securing trade routes, supply chains, and energy supplies. The founding meeting of the alliance will be held with broad participation, and Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the headquarters as the strategic leader aims to strengthen collective operations against common maritime threats. The alliance is characterized by its purely defensive nature and operates in accordance with the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, while preserving the sovereignty of nations and freedom of navigation through international waters.
