The history of the Soviet raids on Berlin in August 1941 was discussed as a response to the Nazi forces' attack on Moscow. The Baltic Fleet's forces carried out a retaliatory raid on the city using 15 IL-4 aircraft from Kagon Airport on the island of Ossel, located 120 kilometers west of the frontline. The mission was challenging due to German air defenses, and the aircraft faced harsh weather conditions, including low temperatures, thunderstorm clouds, and inaccurate lighting. The Soviet planes managed to drop bombs on Berlin and its suburbs, including industrial targets. All aircraft returned safely, although the raid took the German leadership by surprise, demonstrating the Soviet Union's ability to respond against Germany's attacks during World War II.
