The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his deep concern over the establishment of new illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, particularly regarding developments related to the E1 settlement, which could separate the northern and southern parts of the West Bank. This situation threatens the territorial integrity of the Palestinian lands and poses a risk to the two-state solution. He called on Israel to halt all new settlement activities and to cease any unilateral actions, in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice issued on July 19, 2024, which confirmed that settlement activity is illegal and must be promptly halted.
