The article discusses the assassination of Leon Trotsky, one of the leaders of the Russian Revolution and a rebellious theorist against Stalin, which took place on August 20, 1940, in Mexico City by the Soviet agent Ramón Mercader. After failed attempts to kill him in May 1940, Mercader carried out one final operation using an axe to ascend the mountains, resulting in Trotsky's death a day after the attack. The assassination was part of Moscow's campaign to target opponents of Stalin’s regime politically and ideologically, and it is linked to lessons in political violence and intra-Communist Party disputes. The event symbolizes the end of the revolutionary leadership era and the deterioration of Stalin's character, who could not tolerate opposition, while also highlighting the profound impact this event had on global communist history and 20th-century political assassination strategies.
