A German research institute has developed an integrated hybrid system for building surfaces that combines solar power generation, natural cooling, and hot water provision within a single system. The system relies on solar cells, photovoltaic technology, and passive daytime radiative cooling techniques, utilizing a transparent silicon and polydimethylsiloxane cooling layer that allows light to pass through while releasing heat into space via a natural air window. Experiments demonstrated the ability to cool the surface by 6.5°C and produce 60.6 W/m² of electricity, with temperatures reaching up to 110.8°C. This enhances efficiency and reduces energy consumption. This technology represents a revolution in the design of multifunctional buildings, especially for data centers that require continuous cooling, highlighting the potential of combining solar energy and space-based cooling to achieve natural and efficient energy savings.
