Australian investigators revealed that an Airbus A380 operated by Qantas, which took off from Sydney to Dallas, flew for two days after a technician inadvertently left a lamp inside its wing during HVAC system maintenance on January 7, prior to departure. The 33-centimeter-long lamp was only discovered after the aircraft returned to Sydney, where it was found that technicians had not noticed its presence during inspections or when returning tools, and it was left inside the wing during the air conditioner sensor replacement process. The report stated that the lamp did not affect the safety of the flight, and Qantas has strengthened its tool monitoring procedures following the incident. This event follows another incident in December 2023, where a tool was found inside the engine of a similar aircraft model after 34 flights, highlighting the risks of tool loss during maintenance and its impact on flight safety.
