A failure of the high-voltage electrical line at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, controlled by Russia in Ukraine, has forced it to rely on emergency diesel generators to maintain the safety of the reactors. Although the plant has ceased electricity production, it still requires a continuous power supply to keep the nuclear fuel cool. Supervisory authorities are monitoring radiation levels and affirm that the situation is under control, with measures being taken to ensure safety. Russia has occupied the plant since the start of the war in 2022, and both sides have exchanged accusations of nuclear safety threats through military actions.
