Concerns have increased in the Ethiopian Tigrai region over the potential resumption of fighting between federal forces and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) forces, after a drone strike targeted a residential area in the regional capital, Mekelle, this morning. This is the second attack in two days, with a drone hitting an area near the city; the first attack did not result in any injuries. Tensions are escalating between the federal government, led by Abiy Ahmed, and the rebelling Tigray authorities, with military preparations underway along the border. This escalation follows a series of tensions since the end of the peace agreement that concluded the brutal conflict, which resulted in the deaths of at least 600,000 people between 2020 and 2022.
