The Chinese authorities announced the addition of Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam to the list of countries benefiting from the 240-hour visa-free transit program, bringing the total number of eligible countries to 57. Citizens of these two countries, when entering China with regular passports and holding confirmed onward tickets to a third country, are allowed to stay in the country for up to 10 days through 65 border crossings without a visa. They can also enter Hainan Province visa-free and stay for up to 30 days, increasing the number of countries benefiting from the exemption policy to 61. These measures aim to boost tourism and international exchanges following the COVID-19 pandemic, with a record increase in foreign arrivals in the first half of 2026, where the number of visa-free entries exceeded 17.8 million, a 30.6% rise compared to the previous year.
