Israel intends to announce the release of five Lebanese civilians who are not members of Hezbollah, as part of ongoing negotiations with Lebanon under American sponsorship, aimed at progressing towards a permanent peace agreement and a comprehensive ceasefire between the two countries. The first of the detainees, Malek Gazi, was handed over to the Lebanese side at the Naqoura border crossing. This marks the second time Israel has released Lebanese detainees since March 2025, as part of goodwill efforts and support for American efforts to stabilize relations between the two sides. This step comes within the context of broad diplomatic efforts, including rare meetings between Israeli and American officials, to achieve a long-term settlement in the region.
