The article discusses the conflict between the United States and Iran over control of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most vital maritime routes for global oil transportation. Washington claims that the strait is open and under its control, with hundreds of ships passing through daily and oil shipments exceeding 10 million barrels per day. It also points to a noticeable increase in ship transits accompanied by U.S. military escort. Conversely, Iran asserts that the strait remains under Iranian control and is closed to navigation except for vessels with prior authorization, warning against targeting ships attempting to transit without permits. American figures indicate that 30 to 40 ships pass through daily, while vessel monitoring data show much lower numbers, ranging from 5 to 14 ships per day, reflecting discrepancies in reports and statistical methods between the two sides. This conflicting information creates ambiguity regarding the true control of the strait, as both U.S. and Iranian forces continue to exchange statements about it, indicating ongoing tension without a clear resolution in sight for the near future.
