The International Football Federation "FIFA" and the European Football Union "UEFA" have become embroiled in a fierce legal dispute, with FIFA accusing the latter of attempting to smear its reputation through legal requests to collect documents related to its failed World Cup investment plan. These requests have sparked controversy and threats of boycotting the tournament. The conflict centers on UEFA's filing of requests in the United States to obtain documents concerning FIFA, including from key investors such as Joshua Kushner. FIFA faces accusations of overstepping legal boundaries by seeking documents from courts that lack jurisdiction, and is calling for Swiss courts to handle the matter. In contrast, UEFA describes these actions as an illegal attempt to interfere in its internal affairs, amid efforts by UEFA to oust FIFA President Gianni Infantino and support other candidates competing against him for the presidency.
