Congo plans move embassy to Jerusalem
The Democratic Republic of the Congo announced the initiation of procedures to transfer its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, as a symbolic gesture to support Israeli sovereignty over the disputed city. The announcement came after a meeting between President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the United Nations meetings in 2023, during which Netanyahu promised to open an embassy in Kinshasa. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is one of the few countries taking steps to relocate its diplomatic representation to Jerusalem, while the majority of foreign embassies remain based in Tel Aviv.
