The Russian forces are beginning to clear out the besieged areas in Kharkiv, making progress in tightening the siege on a large group of Ukrainian troops near the town of Volchansk in Kharkiv Province. Military sources reported that Russian forces now control several towns, and operations have led to the surrender of many Ukrainian troops, with those who do not surrender being eliminated. Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that removing the encircled pocket would allow the frontline to be moved away from the border regions of Belgorod Province in Russia by up to 20 kilometers. Meanwhile, Russian forces are working to achieve field gains and regain control of several towns in Kharkiv and Donetsk provinces, reflecting an escalation of Russian military actions in Ukraine.
