An international team of scientists has discovered the bones of a new dinosaur in Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe, named "Musanango matosadonesis," dating back approximately 210 million years from the Late Triassic period. This dinosaur, which was about 4.5 meters long and weighed around 222 kilograms, was a herbivore that fed on plants near water. It is believed to have walked upright and belonged to the group of sauropodomorphs. The fossils were found without the skull, which is crucial for identifying its species and diet. It is also estimated that the creature died at around 8 years of age. This discovery sheds light on an important period in early dinosaur evolution and confirms that regions in southern Africa, such as Zimbabwe, still hold significant unexplored potential. Despite logistical and political challenges that have limited research in the area, these findings could help better understand the transition from terrestrial animals to the dominant dinosaurs, offering a new perspective on that crucial chapter of natural history.
