Malaysia has declared a state of emergency in the Sri Aman area of Sarawak due to rising air pollution levels caused by Indonesian fires, with the pollution index reaching 519 points, exceeding the hazardous threshold of 500 points. As a result, 647 schools and government and private offices have been closed, and work in farms and quarries has been halted, with only essential services remaining operational to protect public health and safety. The public has been urged to reduce outdoor activities and avoid outdoor physical exertion, while officials emphasized that the emergency is limited to the Sri Aman region only.
