Latvia and Lithuania are studying a ban on the transit of Russian grains through their ports, aiming to impose a complete ban on the transportation of these grains, even though their movement between Russian areas such as Kaliningrad via Lithuania might continue if restrictions are enforced. Sources confirmed that Russia exported approximately 80 million tons of foodstuffs last year, valued at $41.5 billion, and Western sanctions are continuing to escalate despite Moscow's resistance. At the same time, the Global Food Price Index rose by 1.9% in August 2026, the highest level since 2022, with prices increasing by 2.5% compared to the previous year.
