New financial rule boosts British investment
The British government announced a reduction in the discount rate used for evaluating capital projects, decreasing it from 3.5% to 3% as part of adjustments to the Green Book guide, which governs the assessment of government investments. This change aims to improve the likelihood of approval for infrastructure, transportation, and housing projects that require significant investments and whose economic and social benefits are realized over many years. Lowering the rate helps bridge the gap between the present value and future benefits of long-term projects. Full details of these adjustments will be presented in the October budget, reflecting the government's efforts to support long-term investments and promote economic growth in Britain.
