The United Nations General Assembly approved a new, corrected world map aimed at rectifying distortions caused by Mercator projection, which makes Africa appear up to 14 times smaller than its actual size compared to North America and Europe. This correction seeks to restore balance to global map representation and promote a fair depiction of different regions, especially Africa, where traditional projections have minimized the continents’ size by distorting distances and areas. The United States opposed the decision, while most other countries voiced support. The United Nations emphasized that this correction enhances the accuracy of the world's geographical representation.
