Tunisian authorities detained journalist Mohamed El-Yousfi due to his Facebook posts and criticisms of the authorities. He was stopped while heading to participate in a radio program discussing water policies in Tunisia. The Syndicate of Journalists confirmed that the investigation against him was due to his independent journalism, which has faced pressure and restrictions on freedom of expression. Tunisia continues to experience a decline in press freedom, with judicial prosecutions and attacks against journalists since April 2025. The syndicate is calling for his release and the protection of his rights to defend himself, amid international criticism of the country's media situation.
