The Berlin state government was subjected to a cyberattack in August, during which a group of hackers stole a large amount of data and demanded a ransom of one million euros. After the deadline expired, they released approximately 5.8 terabytes of data on the dark web. The German Cyber Security Agency confirmed that the data release poses immediate threats to the victims and the community. It also stated that the attack was financially motivated, with warnings of increased cyber threats ahead of the Berlin elections scheduled for September 20. Cybersecurity experts criticized the Berlin government for neglecting the implementation of data protection measures, which contributed to the success of the attack and its serious repercussions on infrastructure and organizations.
